Ya Shi Xiang Dancong
Ya Shi Xiang is a well-known Dancong oolong from Phoenix Mountain in Guangdong Province. Despite its unusual name, it is prized for its elegant floral fragrance, soft sweetness, and refined aromatic depth.
Origin & Name Background
Ya Shi Xiang originates from selected Dancong cultivars traditionally grown in the Phoenix Mountain region. The name, which translates literally as “Duck Dung Aroma,” is believed to have been used historically as a form of misdirection to discourage theft of prized tea plants. The tea itself carries no unpleasant aroma and is widely appreciated for its graceful floral character.
Processing & Oxidation
Ya Shi Xiang undergoes extended withering and careful bruising to promote aromatic development. Oxidation is typically moderate to moderately high, allowing floral and creamy notes to emerge with clarity. Roasting is applied lightly to stabilise the tea while preserving its fragrance.
