Mi Lan Xiang Dancong

Mi Lan Xiang Dancong

Mi Lan Xiang, meaning “Honey Orchid Aroma,” is one of the most well-known Dancong oolong styles from Phoenix Mountain in Guangdong Province. It is prized for its naturally sweet, floral fragrance and refined aromatic clarity.

Origin & Background

Mi Lan Xiang originates from selected Dancong cultivars traditionally grown in the Phoenix Mountain region. The name refers to the tea’s characteristic aroma, which evokes honeyed sweetness layered with orchid-like florals.

Processing & Oxidation

Mi Lan Xiang undergoes extended withering and careful bruising to promote aromatic development. Oxidation is typically moderate to moderately high, enhancing sweetness and fragrance. Roasting is applied lightly to stabilise the tea without obscuring its floral character.

  • Oxidation level: Moderate to moderately high
  • Roasting: Light, supportive

Sensory Profile

  • Aroma: Honey, orchid, ripe floral sweetness
  • Flavor: Honeyed fruit, soft florals, gentle sweetness
  • Mouthfeel: Clean, smooth, lingering

Caffeine & Character

Mi Lan Xiang contains a moderate level of caffeine. Due to its oxidation style, the energy is often perceived as clear and focused, supporting alertness without sharp stimulation.

Brewing Guidance

Mi Lan Xiang responds well to gongfu-style brewing. Short infusions highlight its aromatic lift, while careful temperature control preserves balance and sweetness.

Storage & Enjoyment

Mi Lan Xiang is best enjoyed relatively fresh, when its aromatics are most expressive. Store airtight, away from heat, light, and strong odors to preserve fragrance.
